KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21, 2015:
Chaos erupted at the MIC headquarters after two groups clashed leaving some bloodied and forcing the intervention of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU).
As the gates closed at the headquarters for the MIC presidential nomination, fights broke out between two factions in MIC.
Stones, bottles, bricks, and sticks were hurled from both sides of the gates, hitting people, buildings and cars.
A subeditor, Gunalan Manium from Tamil dailyMakkal Osai, was knocked down after being struck by a stone.
It was decided by the MIC interim 2009 Central Working Committee (CWC) on July 24, that the MIC presidential nominations be held today with the elections on Sept 6.
MIC had made headlines of late with the constant bickering between two camps that have split the party in two, one lead by former party president Datuk Seri G. Palanivel and one led by acting-president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam.
Things came to a boiling point as a result of the Registrar of Societies (RoS) issuing a notice on Dec 5 last year requesting that the party hold re-elections.
