KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21, 2015:
Bus commuters who reside in areas around Seremban, Klang and Rawang but work in Kuala Lumpur will get a 30% discount in bus fares beginning Sept 1.
In a statement yesterday, the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) said the discount is an initiative by the government to lighten the burden of the people and reduce their cost of living.
According to the statement, the discount is for four major routes, namely Seremban-Kuala Lumpur, Klang-Kuala Lumpur and Rawang-Kuala Lumpur, as well as Bus Expressway Transit 5 and 6 (BET) routes.
“It will not only benefit commuters living on the outskirts of town and working in Kuala Lumpur, but will also encourage the people to use public transport, hence making it the preferred mode of transport.”
The discount will be given through the purchase of monthly passes from the bus operators involved.
With the 30% discount, the monthly pass for the Seremban-Kuala Lumpur route will cost only RM185 from the current RM264, Klang-Kuala Lumpur RM91 (from RM130) and Rawang-Kuala Lumpur, RM73 (from RM104).
The monthly pass for BET 5 route (Bandar Tasik Puteri-Country Homes-Kuala Lumpur) and BET 6 (Bukit Beruntung-Kuala Lumpur), which now cost RM182 would be reduced to RM127 after the discount.
