JOHOR BARU, Aug 15, 2015:

A 37-year-old factory bus driver was arrested at his home by police about seven hours after he fled an accident scene in Persiaran Pelangi Indah here yesterday.

A team from the Johor Baru Selatan district police detained the suspect at his home in Taman Desa Cermerlang here at 4.30pm on the same day.

Johor Baru Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh said the suspect did not resist arrest when approached by police.

“The suspect was then arrested under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code and brought to the district police headquarters,” he said today.

Sulaiman said police will investigate the suspect who was said to have fled the scene after his factory bus was involved in a three-vehicle accident in Persiaran Pelangi Indah.

“The accident also caused the death of a 46-year-old school teacher,” he said, adding that police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.

In yesterday’s accident, the deceased Lim Guat Ngoh from Taman Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram, who was a passenger in a Toyota Innova, was killed after the driver lost control of the bus.

The empty bus was heading towards Taman Pelangi Indah and Taman Gaya at around 9.45am when it crashed into a four-wheel drive vehicle, the Toyota Innova and a Perodua Alza that were waiting at the traffic lights on the opposite side of the road.

Both the bus and the Innova plunged into a 10m ravine.
