KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12, 2015:
Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad may replace Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed as chairman for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
According to a source close to the matter, a meeting was held on Monday, amongn Shahrir, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of parliamentary affairs Datuk Seri Azalina Othman. This has further heightened this rumour.
“All agree to appoint Shahrir as the new PAC chairman based on his experience in holding the position before this,” said the source, who refused to be identified.
However, the source also stated that it was uncertain whether the appointment would be made immediately, during a special Parliament sitting or during the Parliament proceeding scheduled in October.
Meanwhile, Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who was touted to take over the position was reappointed as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman today, a position which he has held since 2013.
“This morning, I went to the Prime Minister’s office and received a letter reappointing me as Mara chairman.
“I consider this a great responsibility and will ensure that Mara will be managed with integrity and fulfil the people’s trust,” wrote Annuar on his official Facebook page today.
The appointment puts an end to speculation that he will spearhead PAC.
