DAP’s Dr Tan Seng Giaw claimed the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) inquiry into 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) was “deliberately sabotaged”, The Malaysian Insider reported.
This after the committee, the PAC’s deputy chairman explained, lost key members ahead of this week’s hearing on issues related to the state investment arm.
Former 1MDB chief executive officer Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi was expected to appear this morning, while president and group executive director, Arul Kanda Kandasamy was scheduled to be questioned tomorrow.
“PAC has been deliberately suspended and we already anticipated the 1MDB people would not turn up.
“We have anticipated the whole thing to be deliberately sabotaged,” the news portal quoted Dr Tan as saying.
The Kepong Member of Parliament however refused to elaborate who had “deliberately sabotaged” the PAC proceedings, but noted that never in the history of the bi-partisan committee had so many of its members been elevated to the government administration at the same time.
Last week, PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamad and three other members, namely, Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin and Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau were promoted to the Cabinet in a reshuffle.
Their appointments automatically disqualified them from being PAC members.
