KUALA LUMPUR, July 29, 2015:
Bersih 2.0 has announced that Bersih 4 will commence on Aug 29 from 2pm to Aug 30 on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.
The latest installation of the rally is inviting all patriotic Malaysians to join to demand for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to step down and the institutional reforms to be implemented.
According to a statement issued by Bersih 2.0, the time has come for Malaysians to come forward to demand for Najib’s resignation and a host of institutional reforms to put an end to prime ministerial corruption since Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s reign.
“All Malaysians are now paying a huge price for the RM42 billion 1MDB investment. “Najib has virtually ruled out all possibilities for truth on the 1MDB to be unearthed and criminals to be brought to justice by a series of his political moves on July 27 and July 28,” the statement said.
The moves in question were the abrupt and arguably unconstitutional removal of Attorney-General (AG) Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, the co-opting of four out of 13 members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) into the administration and the continued and worsened power concentration through a Cabinet reshuffle.
“This is made worse with the retention of the Finance Minister portfolio’s by Najib himself and the appointment of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) who continues to hold the Home Minister portfolio.
“Ahmad Zahid has just ordered the three-month suspension of The Edge Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily for exposés on the 1MDB scandal.
“The PM and DPM simultaneously holding two powerful ministries of Finance and Home Affairs depletes any hope of independent investigations without more attempts to cover up corruption and silence critics.
