KUALA LUMPUR, July 24, 2015:

A non-governmental organisation (NGO) has urged the police to investigate the public confession of The Edge media group owner Datuk Tong Kooi Ong and its editor Ho Kay Tat for cheating Swiss national Xavier Andre Justo by promising him US$2 million (RM7.6 million) in exchange of documents relating to 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s (1MDB) dealings with PetroSaudi. The Islamic Youth Movement of Malaysia (Abim) president Amidi Abdul Rahman has called for the probe to gather evidence on other related investigations against 1MDB and PetroSaudi. “We have received numerous vague information through various media outlets and there were more speculations than actual evidences on dealings by 1MDB,” he told The Rakyat Post when contacted today. Amidi also advised the people to be cautious with 1MDB information pending the completion of investigation by relevant agencies. “The confession by Tong and Ho was largely due to the latest development in the issue. However, the matter is still currently being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), police and the public accounts committee (PAC). “These days, more parties are emerging making revelations related to the scandal that may complicate the investigation as it will lead to different speculations among the public.” Earlier today, Tong and Ho admitted misleading the Swiss national into thinking that they would pay the huge sum in exchange for over 400,000 documents relating to 1MDB dealings with the Saudi oil firm.
