A 22-year-old man in Sarikei, Sarawak, shot himself in the shoulder with a steel arrow on Friday.
According to The Borneo Post, Rantai Asing, who went to Sarikei Hospital to have the arrow removed, said he and some friends were fishing with a homemade bow and arrow in Bintangor when the freak accident happened.
He said he fired the arrow that was more than one foot long, that somehow hit a rock and ricocheted to pierce him in the right shoulder.
Assistance from the Fire and Rescue Department to cut it the arrow was called in after medical personnel had difficulties removing the long arrow.
A team of firefighters then used a bolt cutter to shorten the arrow so that the embedded portion could be removed surgically.
