A Penang DAP assemblyman has been described by party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as “behaving like an Umno member”.
Lim’s statement came following Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu’s statement last month to several Chinese dailies that the state government was planning to build a casino on Penang Hill.
“Teh should realise he is a DAP leader so he should not be spreading slander like Umno.”
Last month, Teh was quoted by China Press as saying that a casino might be built by the state on Penang Hill.
Lim, however, denied such claims.
“I’ve stated my stand since I took office as Chief Minister that no casino will be built on Penang Hill.
“It is not suitable for the state’s economy and for the people here and I stand firm by what I’ve said.
“This stand has not changed, ” he told a press conference at the Town Hall this morning.
Lim added that while the DAP did not deny members the right to express themselves, they should not resort to slander.
He expressed shock over Teh’s statement which he described as slanderous.
