KUALA LUMPUR, July 2, 2015:
Two men were charged today at the Sessions Court with committing culpable homicide not amounting to murder outside a nightclub at Jalan Dang Wangi, two weeks ago.
Mohd Nasir Mohd Salim, 32, and Shahbul Iqmal Khairol, 19, pleaded not guilty for assaulting 30-year-old Syrian national Alkhunaini Naif Abdullah Alqassim, between 5am and 6am on June 16.
Judge Azman Ahmad imposed RM20,000 bail on each of them, ordered the two to surrender their passports and report to the police station monthly.
They were also warned against witness tampering and were reminded to stay away from eyewitnesses.
The duo, together with eight others still at large, allegedly committed the offence under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code and read together with Section 149 of the same act.
They face a maximum of 30-year imprisonment, fine or both upon conviction.
It was learnt that Mohd Nasir, a warden with a private college, posted bail but it remains unclear whether Shahbul’s family members were able to raise the amount.
Mohd Nasir was represented by lawyer Idris Seydalavi and lawyer Fahmi Adilah appeared for Shahbul, while Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazlin Mohamad Yusoff appeared for the Attorney-General’s Chambers. The court has fixed Aug 3 for re-mention of the case.
On June 16, Alkhunaini Naif’s body was found shirtless slumped on the back seat of a Toyota Camry along Jalan Dang Wangi just after 7.30pm.
A passerby who spotted the car parked outside a motor mechanic’s that morning, alerted the police.
