KUALA LUMPUR, July 1, 2015:
The fuel price increase which took effect today will affect the people’s preparations for Hari Raya.
“It will cause the price of daily necessities to increase very soon,” PAS Information chief Nasruddin Hassan said today.
“This will burden the people especially Muslims as they will be celebrating Hari Raya in about 15 days. “Daily necessities such as meat will become more expensive as Hari Raya approaches, and this will be hard for the government to control. “This is without taking into consideration the increase in toll in August and electricity tariff early next year,” he said in a statement today.
The 10 sen increase for RON95 (RM2.05 to RM2.15), and 20 sen hike for RON97 (RM2.35 to RM2.55) per litre came into effect today.
The price increase was confirmed by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek.
Nasrudin said the petrol price increase added pressure to living costs for those from the low income group (B40) with the continuous increase in inflation rate.
“The petrol price increase is not acceptable as Brent crude oil prices are relatively low. “The government should have taken steps to reduce the people’s burden as the impact from the Good and Services Tax (GST) imposed effectiveApril 1 has been followed by petrol and diesel price increase in Jun 1.”
