Last Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced the Umno Supreme Council’s decision to defer the party elections by 18 months to enable it to focus on serving the people and on strengthening unity among the members.
Najib, who is also Umno president, said the deferment was made in accordance with Clause 10.16 of the party constitution which gave the Supreme Council the power to postpone the elections at the council, divisional and branch levels.
