KUALA LUMPUR, June 22, 2015:
Three were killed after one of the floors of a supermarket which was under construction collapsed in Pulau Sebang, Malacca, at 2.15pm today
Bernama reported that six other workers sustained injuries. Three of them are in a critical condition.
Malacca police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye was quoted by the national news agency as saying that investigations were being carried out to determine the cause of the incident.
“The workers were removing (staging) from the hardened concrete floor when the whole floor suddenly collapsed.”
The entire building’s structure will also be inspected to ensure it is safe.
The three who died were construction workers from Myanmar.
Search and rescue operations to get the victims out of the rubble involved 122 personnel, including from the police, the Fire and Rescue Department and the Malaysian Smart team.
Those injured were taken to the Tampin Hospital for treatment, said Bernama.
Meanwhile, The Star Online reported that municipal council officials were seen putting up stop work notices at the construction site.
