KUALA LUMPUR, June 5, 2015:

“The police officer who stopped Tun Mahathir from giving his speech during the event was under my directive”.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the reason former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was stopped from giving the speech was because the event was cancelled and so no speech should be given by any other person.

“When an event has been cancelled, everything else must be cancelled as well. No other event or speech relating to the same event can be continued.”

The much anticipated “Nothing2Hide” dialogue scheduled to take place this morning at PWTC was disrupted after Khalid tweeted at 8.40am ordering that the event be cancelled in the interest of national security and harmony.

While attendees had been waiting in expectation for a fiery dialogue, the fireworks fizzled out when it became known that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak would not attend the event.

Dr Mahathir, who also attended the event, was later told by police to stop speaking during the “Nothing2Hide” dialogue session.

According to Khalid, the reason why he ordered the event to be stopped was because police received information that there were groups who planned to create chaos there.

“There is no need for me to explain who the groups are. What’s important is that we need to prevent the chaos from happening. It is better to prevent.”

He explained that earlier, the Prime Minister’s Office was not informed of the cancellation as police received the information at the last minute.

When asked if there was any arrest made during the event, Khalid confirmed it but refused to share the name of the person arrested.

“My responsibility is clear under the Police Act. I have to take care of the people and the country and I use that power for the sake of national security.

“When there is a threat, this is when the police come in.

“Under Section 101 until section 109 of the Criminal Procedure Code, it is the police responsibility to prevent a crime from happening.”
