SHAH ALAM, June 2, 2015:
PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat has slammed the federal government for allegedly failing to bring up the amendments to Article 355 of the Federal Constitution and the Syariah Criminal Enactment Amendment to the Council of Rulers for approval.
Speaking to several hundred delegates at the opening of the PAS Youth Muktamar at the Dewan Jubli Perak, here today, Suhaizan said with regard to the issue, PAS Youth understood that the Joint-Technical Committee for Hudud Implementation, comprising federal government and Kelantan government representatives, had reached an agreement over a road map to ensure that the hudud law is implemented.
“This is via the Prime Minister’s Department tabling the amendments of Article 355 at the Parliament after getting the assent and approval from the Council of Rulers.
“However, the federal government renegaded on it by not bringing the matter to the Council of Rulers without any clear reason,” he said.
This, according to Suhaizan, forced PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to push for the tabling of the a private member’s bill at the Parliament to make amendments to Article 355.
“The magical tricks by the federal government should not be difficult to interpret if one understands the ‘divide and rule’ that is used by Umno/Barisan Nasional to pit Pakatan Rakyat against each other using the hudud issue,” he said.
Suhaizan added that despite “Umno’s tricks”, neither would it break PAS’ cooperation within Pakatan Rakyat nor will it fail the party’s struggle to implement Hudud laws.
