Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan has dropped his RM50 million defamation suit against his former employer Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The ruling came after Saiful’s counsel Zamri Idrus informed the court of his client’s intention to withdraw the suit at the High Court here today.
When contacted, Anwar’s lawyer Latheefa Koya said the court initially set Monday for case management.
“However, Saiful’s counsel informed the court of the withdrawal but no reason was given.
“High Court Judicial Commissioner Azizul Azmi Adnan then set the ruling today.
“And we are happy about the withdrawal,” she told The Rakyat Post.
Saiful filed the RM50 million defamation suit against the former Deputy Prime Minister, claiming the latter had ruined his reputation and good name after Anwar alleged that Saiful meant to defame him over the police report on sodomy accusation.
The former Opposition leader is currently serving a five year jail sentenced after he was found guilty of sodomising Saiful, who was then his aide, in 2008.
