KUALA LUMPUR, June 1, 2015:

Convenience store chain 7-Eleven is now offering round-the-clock bill payment services nationwide, said its parent firm 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd in a statement today.

With plans to expand its utility providers, 7-Eleven said it now lets customers pay for U-Mobile, Astro and Telekom Malaysia bills.

The facility is due to its strategic partnership with associated Berjaya Group unit MOL – a technology provider for in-store payment services which lets customers top-up their prepaid phone credit, Touch ‘n Go reloads and physical payment of online purchases via MOLPay.

“MOL’s payment system at 7-Eleven allows consumers without online banking or access to Internet facilities as well as those who do not have or do not want to use credit or debit cards to be able to purchase products or services as one just have to make a cash payment at any one of the more than 1,800 stores 7-Eleven operates across both Peninsular and East Malaysia.”

For further convenience, it said U-Mobile, Astro and Telekom Malaysia will be using the embedded barcode remittance technology of the MOL Reload terminal system.

With this technology, the system scans the account details directly from each of the utility bills and upon scanning over the counter of 7-Eleven stores, the transaction will be completed by paying in cash.

The payment will be transacted on a real time basis and customers will receive a detailed receipt for proof of payment.

7-Eleven said this system allows retailers, merchant and customers to transact through all types of electronic payments without requiring a cash register or POS system interface.

MOL Global Inc co-chief executive officer Charles Ng said: “The availability and the operating hours of 7-Eleven stores, which are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, will provide everyone the flexibility to drop by at their convenience to pay their utility bills.”

7-Eleven Malaysia CEO Gary Brown added: “This is added convenience to our more than 900,000 daily customers and further complements 7-Eleven’s continuous roll-out of offerings – with free WiFi and seating areas as well as more consumer loyalty reward programmes.”
