KUALA LUMPUR, May 30, 2015:Footie fans flocked to Nu Sentral mall this afternoon, eager to catch a glimpse of Argentinian living legend Diego Armando Maradona. The entrance of the mall was filled with excitement as they awaited, more than an hour for some, for the arrival of the football royalty. The fans included many young ones who were not even born yet when the Argentine genius was dribbling around defenders, almost like the defenders were not even on the field. Several native Argentinians dressed in the blue and white jersey of Albicileste, the Argentina national football team, were also spotted. One of them, Pablo Daniel from Bueno Aires, even took off his shirt and was momentarily half naked as he threw the shirt onto the stage for Maradona to sign on it. “I waited since 3pm for this and it’s definitely worth the trouble. “Maradona is an inspiration to our countrymen,” he said. The fans waited behind barriers erected by security personnel to keep them at a distance from the icon, who finally arrived just after 5.30pm. As Maradona walked on the red carpet into the mall, circled closely by press photographers and VIP guests, some passers-by and those working at the mall stopped what they were doing and joined the masses. Maradona spoke little, but smiled as the press cameras and mobile phones flashed as the legend was being escorted by security personnel. Maradona, who is also called the “Hand of God”, came to launch the 37th outlet of the Boby & Maradona Gold and Diamond showroom, the first in Southeast Asia. Maradona is a partner in a business venture with Indian jeweller Boby Chemannur, who was also present. Also present to grace the occasion was Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor.
