KUALA LUMPUR, April 25, 2015:
A fledgling petition has been created to urge Malaysia to show the “Fight of the Century”, the Floyd Mayweather Jr versus Manny Pacquiao boxing match, which will take place on May 3.
The petition, urging Malaysian broadcasting company Astro to show the match for the many boxing fans in Malaysia, has gathered about 35 signatures so far.
“This petition was made to show Astro how many boxing fans in Malaysia want to order the pay per view. They are currently not showing the greatest boxing match in history on Astro and its a real shame,” read the petition on change.org.
It was reported today in The Malay Mail that The Malaysian Amateur Boxing Federation (MABF) president Tan Sri Isa Abdul Samad did not even know that the match was taking place.
When asked for a reaction to Astro not showing the match, he replied that he did not know about it and was busy.
While the anticipation for the match has reached fever pitch around the world, Malaysia seems to be oblivious to it.
So far the only place that has advertised to show the match was Sid’s Pub, which advertised that the match would be shown live at their outlet in Taman Tun Dr Ismail.
Many people have begin to comment on the fact that the match has not been slated to be shown here in Malaysia.
Arvind Singh Sidhu, 30, a recruitment lead and wrestling and boxing enthusiast, said it was going to be the biggest fight in history.
“The world will stop to watch it and we don’t want to just be a bystander.
“Pacman (Pacquiao) is going to do Asia proud and we want to witness it,” he told The Rakyat Post.
Dhineshraj Ramachandram commented on the petition: “This is arguably the greatest boxing match, highly anticipated in the modern era. I don’t want to miss it.”
Jason Sudesan said: “This is the biggest match in boxing history and the whole world will be watching this fight”.
Attempts to contact the Astro CEO, the Communications and Multimedia Minister as well as the Youth and Sports Minister on the matter were all unsuccessful.
