KUALA LUMPUR, April 24, 2015:
Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem showed his fatherly side today and expressed disappointment on some parents who failed to show support for their children’s achievements on his Facebook page.
In his status post, Adenan said he feels disappointed that some parents were not there to witness or show their children support when there was a recognition ceremony in their school, be it academic or co-curricular achievement.
“Children can feel disappointed & remorseful throughout their whole life if their parents do not show them support, even though it is a very small achievement,” said Adenan in his posting.
It is said that the posting was triggered after he attended Sarawak Parent’s Day dinner jointly organised by the Sarawak Bumiputera Chamber of Commerce Women’s branch and Welfare, Women and Family Development Ministry Parent’s Day on Wednesday night.
The Borneo Post reported Adenan saying positive reinforcement would gradually build children’s confidence so that they would be motivated and encouraged to do better.
“Do go for your child’s school activities like Parent Teachers Association Day or prize-giving day. Show support and appreciation to your children, when they are taught love and brought up with love, they will grow up with a positive mind. Do not teach our children to hate,” said Adenan.
