KUALA LUMPUR, April 5, 2015:
Datuk Tan Huat Seang was a very humble person, according to a former minister who was also his friend.
Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung said that the late SP Baiduri Sdn Bhd chief executive officer had great business acumen.
“He was in the process of building PR1MA houses in Sungai Petani.
“My deepest sympathies to his wife and family. We hope that the family stays strong in facing this emotional time,” the former Housing and Local Government Minister said in a text message to The Rakyat Post.
Tan was killed with five others, including former minister Tan Sri Jamaluddin Jarjis, after the helicopter they were in crashed in Semenyih yesterday.
PR1MA Malaysia (1 Malaysia Peoples’ Housing) was established to plan, develop, construct and maintain high-quality houses for middle-income households in key urban centres. Jamaluddin was its chairman.
Meanwhile, Guang Ming Daily reported that Tan’s body was claimed by relatives and cremated this afternoon in Kuala Lumpur.
The remains will then be brought to his house in Alor Star, Kedah, tonight.
The report also stated that today was Tan’s birthday and he was supposed to go back home to Kedah to celebrate his 59th birthday.
Newsmen who visited his home in Alor Star were met by family members who declined to be interviewed and asked that their privacy be respected.
According to the report, Tan’s friend, who wished to remain anonymous, said the former had been in Kuala Lumpur since last week to attend the wedding of daughter of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
According to Tan’s friend, he had insisted on attending the wedding despite his wife telling him not to go.
