KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28, 2015:Cartoonist Zunar’s book launch was once again interrupted as around 20 police officers threatened to arrest him should he proceed with the event to launch his comic book “ROS in Kangkong Land”.
According to his tweet this morning, the cartoonist whose real name is Zulkiflee Anwar Ulhaque was told by the Brickfields police to leave the premise in Brickfields where the relaunch was scheduled to take place, as he did not have the required permit for the event.
“20 police lead by ASP Ramasamy from Brickfields came & disrupted my book launch in Brickfields today. They threaten to detain me if carry on,” wrote Zunar.
This was later re-tweeted by PKR lawyer Latheefa Koya who on the social media site, asked Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar to explain the reason behind the disruption.
“Total abuse of power — about 20 police came & disrupted @zunarcartoonist book launch at Brickfields just now! why @KBAB51?”
Zunar’s latest comic book featured a collection of cartoons on Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
It was first launched on Feb 14 but the books never made it to the event held in Petaling Jaya as police confiscated 200 copies of it while they were being transported there.
Zunar is currently investigated under the Sedition Act 1948 for his previous controversial works that were also banned by Putrajaya.
