KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11, 2015:
The “March to Freedom” campaign created by the six children of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will become one of the new agendas of Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar said for the purpose of freeing Anwar from prison and improving the shortcomings of law in this country, they would take this all the way up to the international level.
“Last night we, the PR Secretariat, held a meeting to discuss this and PAS and DAP representatives have expressed their consent for Dr Hatta Ramli to head the campaign.
“The question (of obtaining PR’s support) need not arise because we will adopt it as a PR agenda,” she said at a press conference at the residence of PKR’s de facto leader on Jalan Segambut.
The March to Freedom campaign is a continuation of Anwar’s reformasi movement aimed at reshaping justice in this country.
The founder of the campaign is Anwar’s second daughter, Nurul Nuha Anwar.
In the meantime, Nurul Izzah said all her siblings agreed to step forward in the future to stop political persecution which she claimed had befallen her father.
She also asked that her mother, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, be given space to contend with the absence of Anwar who was sentenced to prison for five years yesterday.
“For 12 years Dr Wan Azizah has faced challenges and stepped forward. Now the children are grown up and mature and we can help.
“Give her space to be alone and breathe. To face the media is not easy and this is what we will do from now on,” said Nurul Izzah, who was joined by her five siblings at the press conference.
