The Disaster Victims Identification (DVI) unit of the East Java district police has released the name of the first identified victim of AirAsia Flight QZ8501. Its chief Pol Budiono was quoted by Indonesian media, Kompas.com and Detik.com as saying that the body which was initially labelled as B001 has been identified. Budiono had also detailed the methods used by the DVI team in identifying the victim. The first method was to match the fingerprints while the second method was the compare post-mortem data and ante-mortem data. “Other secondary methods used was the items found on the person,” he was quoted as saying by Kompas.com, adding that an identity card bearing the name Hayati Lutfiah Hamid was also found on the body. There was also a necklace with the initials YBS, and a bracelet which the victim’s family identified as having belonged to the victim. Flight QZ8501 initially lost contact with air traffic control last Sunday en route from Surabaya to Singapore. A total of 162 people were on board.
