KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29, 2014:
Selangor Umno delegate Datuk Ismail Kijo expressed his disappointment with the efforts by certain quarters who want the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) group to be accepted and recognised. Citing the Coalition of Malaysian non-governmental organisations (Comango) who had taken a report with regards to basic human rights to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Geneva. In fact, he said, they had also urged the government to sign several matters relating to recognising LGBTs on the grounds that it was basic human rights. “Imagine if we have a son, let’s say his name is Nuar. He brings home a candidate to be his future ‘wife’ who has a moustache thicker than Tan Sri Ibrahim Abu Shah,” Ismail quipped, referring to the former vice-chancellor of Universiti Institut Teknologi Mara (UiTM). “The candidate looks more manly than our son. Is this what we want? “Same goes for women. Suddenly our daughter brings home a candidate for a ‘husband’ who has breasts bigger than our daughters. “This is why we reject LGBT,” Ismail insisted in debating the religious and education motion at the 2014 Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre here today. Meanwhile, Ismail praised the efforts by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) in helping to rehabilitate LGBTs. “I applaud the efforts by Jawi for having rehabilitated some 2,000 LGBTs since 2005. “This is a result of stressing the importance of Islam in this country,” he further explained.
