KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29, 2014:
Sources within divisions in Umno have labelled party information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan as a leader who only holds syok sendiri(full of himself) programmes.
Utusan Malaysia reported these sources as also saying that he had failed to achieve much with his post as hoped, according to columnist Zulkifli Jalil.
“Among this was his explanation regarding Goods and Services Tax (GST) implementation that will be implemented in April. This is why there is talk that he is the weakest party information chief,” he wrote.
The article went on to say that Ahmad looked very uncomfortable when met by reporters during the delegates debate on the president’s policy speech and when questioned he replied: “No need for a comment.”
Ahmad, the reporter noted, however, admitted that many delegates this year were brave enough to reprimand their leaders.
The Deputy Finance Minister said that kept the leaders on the stage on the edge of their seats.
The Umno-owned daily went on to report Ahmad citing the example of being criticised for not holding enough programmes in Rembau.
Ahmad, however, explained that it only went to areas Umno could capture and Rembau was not one of them.
According to Ahmad, not all reprimands had merit as many were factually incorrect.
The Malay daily also wrote that Ahmad singled out another instance when Permatang Pauh Umno delegate Datuk Mohd Zaidi Said brought up an issue of a deputy minister that liked to “act” in front of the people, sometimes as a fisherman, and then a rubber tapper and the next day as a fishmonger.
“I know that was directed at me. He reprimanded me for that, but he did not know that I am a son of a rubber tapper, so what I was doing was not acting.”
