KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26, 2014:
Several Universiti Malaya (UM) mahasiswa associations as well as student representatives are not in favour of Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim coming to the campus tomorrow in conjunction with the Pidato Umum, 40 tahun dari UM ke Penjara programme.
Penggerak Mahasiswa UM president Wan Mohd Suhail Wan Senu said the programme organised by the president of the Mahasiswa UM Association Fahmi Zainol did not represent the entire voice of the students there and could be deemed as compromising and endangering campus security.
He added they were worried PKR supporters from outside would enter the campus grounds and should any provocation take place, the students there would be blamed.
“We are also worried that Anwar will misuse this programme to incite and exploit the students to attend street protests in support of his political agenda.
“Fahmi’s statement titled ‘Ayuh Semarakkan Reformasi Dari UM ke Putrajaya’ previously was also inciteful because it urged students and youths to attend the Himpunan Reformasi Rakyat Hakim Negara rally,” Wan Mohd Suhail told theThe Rakyat Post today.
He added Fahmi did not inform about the event to representatives of the other student representative councils.
“That is why we view this as a personal agenda and should therefore not involve UM students.”
