KUALA LUMPUR, 0ct 26, 2014:Police have asked the public to give them some time to thoroughly investigate the validity of Ustaz Azhar Idrus’ (UAI) alleged leaked pornographic video. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa said his team had started the necessary procedures for the investigation over the 38-second sex clip video depicting a man resembling the well-known Islamic preacher with a woman in bed. “Give us a few days to conduct the investigation. We have several processes which have to be undertaken to avoid any mistakes and all this will take some time,” he toldThe Rakyat Post. He added police were in the process of recording statements while the police forensic team would be analysing the video clip to determine whether the contents were superimposed. The video which has made waves on the the web since its release on Thursday has been dubbed as an attempt to tarnish the image of Islamic scholars in the country. Although Azhar’s aide had come to his defence and denied the validity of the video, two police reports have been lodged over it. This has prompted the police to open a case under Section 292 of the Penal Code for spreading pornographic items. Today, PAS deputy Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi had released a statement asking the authorities to take the matter seriously and conduct necessary action to avoid similar incidents from taking place. Muhammad Khalil said numerous politicians and artistes had become targets of such videos in the past and now an Islamic scholar had fallen victim.
He said PAS Youth was disappointed that such a thing could happen which it saw as an effort to tarnish the preacher’s image. “The image and reputation of UAI is purposely being tarnished and this makes us confused,” he said via a press statement today. “This evil act seems to be spreading so much so even an Islamic scholar has been humiliated this way.”
He urged UAI and his family to stay strong following the development.
