The ongoing political disagreement in Selangor requires a Deputy Menteri Besar to placate all those involved.
Political analyst were of the view that if the post was filled, it would bring closure to the disagreements within Pakatan Rakyat over the appointment of the Menteri Besar.
Political analyst Dr Azmi Hassan said with the current scenario in PR, the appointment of a deputy could help patch things up between PAS and PKR.
“Due to the problems over the appointment of the Menteri Besar, a deputy would be a good solution and help tone down the tense situation,” he told The Rakyat Post.
He added that the deputy from either party could act as a check and balance and this would satisfy both sides.
Political analyst Prof Shahruddin Baharuddin said there was a provision the state Constitution for the appointment of a Deputy Menteri Besar.
He said as part of the reconciliation, the appointment would make sense.
Shahruddin said the deputy could be given some important portfolios to handle.
Political analyst Prof Dr Mohd Fuad Mat Zali said it was not necessary to appoint a deputy.
“In this case, for the sake of balance and transparency, it would be a big help.”
He said it would be very important for the Menteri Besar to discuss all major decisions with his deputy and state exco members.
Dr Mohd Fuad said whoever was appointed to the job must have the capability of doing a good job.
He said although it was not necessary to have a Deputy Menteri Besar in the state, but in view of the current situation, it is necessary.
