PETALING JAYA, August 8, 2014
Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de facto chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today did not reject the possibility of PKR making a decision on Abdul Khalid’s position in the party tomorrow.
“It is up to the Central Leadership Council to decide on Abdul Khalid’s position. I am not sure the decision will be made at the meeting tomorrow. That I cannot ascertain.
“I don’t want any relationship to be affected. However, the party’s policies and interests must be protected.”
Anwar also said PKR respected the stand made by its coalition partner PAS on the stand-off over Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s post as Selangor Menteri Besar.
He said PAS needed to be given further explanation although PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution had provided it with more-detailed facts and justifications recently.
He added that PKR was holding fast to the decision of the Pakatan Rakyat Council and the joint statement he signed along with DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu.
“I have seen the full statement by the PAS leadership, including the Syura Council and interview with Tuan Guru Nik Aziz.
“Although it is not binding on PKR and DAP, as friendly parties, we take it into account and respect it. Obviously, they need further explanation.
“But we must remember that the Syura Council is the PAS Syura Council, not a Pakatan Rakyat one,” Anwar said at a media conference at the PKR headquarters here.
The PAS Syura Council, in a statement recently, expressed its unanimous support for Abdul Khalid to remain in the post.
The council also stressed that the Selangor Menteri Besar’s post was a joint responsibility and that all three component parties had agreed for Abdul Khalid to continue in the post for a second term following the 13th General Election.
