TELUK INTAN, July 11:
DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud reaffirmed her commitment to Teluk Intan during the fasting month by visiting the Ramadan bazaars and wet markets here.
Her visit reflects her commitment to the people there though constituents elected Gerakan’s Datuk Mah Siew Keong over her in the by-election on May 31.
Pasir Bedamar assemblyman Terence Naidu said many people questioned why Dyana, who is DAP party adviser Lim Kit Siang’s protégé, was still in Teluk Intan.
“Dyana has been occupied with work at the party headquarters, but is determined to uphold her promise to stay and serve the Teluk Intan people despite losing in the by-election,” he said in a statement today.
Dyana also paid a visit to the district police headquarters to follow up on a public petition to build a police beat base in Taman Indah Jaya to curb rising crimes.
“The previous Hilir Perak district police chief Assistant Commissioner Goh Kok Liang informed us that they did not have any funds to built the beat base.
“We suggested that the police allow us to help raise funds and they agreed to bring the proposal to the top brass,” Dyana said.
The 27-year-old law graduate lost to Mah after managing only 19,919 votes, compared with the 20,157 votes garnered by the latter.
The seat fell vacant after DAP’s Seah Leong Peng succumbed to cancer.
