KUALA LUMPUR, April 3:
The Defence Ministry, in a written reply to Rafizi Ramli (PKR-Pandan) two days ago, has seemingly pointed out the identity of controversial pro-government blogger “Papagomo” as Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris.
Rafizi, in a press conference at the Parliament lobby today, said that the ministry confirmed the identity of a Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris as having been allowed together with pressmen into the Scorpene submarine for “information sharing purposes” on Dec 9, 2011.
Rafizi had asked the ministry to state when Wan Muhammad Azri, with the identification card number 830121-03-5019, had been allowed to enter the submarine and the purpose.
“I had asked the question to obtain confirmation on Papagomo’s identity as it is publicly known that Papagomo had entered the Scorpene at the minister’s invitation.
“The news has circulated in pro-Umno blogs, which confirmed that Papagomo was indeed in the submarine… photos of him in it have also gone viral,” Rafizi added.
He said Wan Muhammad Azri, while testifying in opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s defamation suit, had vehemently denied that he was in the submarine.
“However, the reply from the Defence Ministry now shows that Wan Muhammad Azri had lied to the court.
“This is an offence under Section 193 of the Penal Code, that is providing false information to the court, which upon conviction, carries a seven-year jail term.”
He said that he, together with N. Surendran (PKR-Padang Serai), would also be lodging a police report on April 8.
“I want to see if the police will execute immediate action against Papagomo and whether the court will impose the jail term on him.
Rafizi to file defamation suit
Rafizi said he would be filing a defamation suit against Wan Muhammad Azri for claiming in his blog that Rafizi was fired from the Malaysian oil and gas company, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), for breach of trust.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court in February this year ruled that Wan Muhammad Azri was pro-Umno blogger Papagomo and awarded opposition leader Anwar RM850,000 in total damages.
Judicial Commissioner Rosilah Yop, who delivered her judgement in chambers, decided this in Anwar’s RM100 million defamation suit against Wan Muhammad Azri.
Wan Muhammad Azri was accused of producing explicit images and derogatory statements about Anwar being intimate with another man in the blog, www.papagomo.com, on March 16 and March 20.
The verdict was the second High Court decision which identified Wan Muhammad Azri as Papagomo despite his denials.
On Sept 13, 2013 Wan Muhammad Azri was identified by Judicial Commissioner Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera as Papagomo.
He ordered him to pay RM200,000 in general damages and RM300,000 in exemplary damages to businessman Abdul Razak Mohd Noor in the latter’s defamation suit against the blogger.
However, the ruling by a court cannot be adopted in another court case as Wan Muhammad is still appealing the matter.
