DAMASCUS, June 4, 2015:
An 80-year-old man from Xinjiang, China, has joined the terrorist group Islamic State (IS).
IS has proudly announced that Muhammad Amin fled Uighur in Xinjiang, with his wife, daughter and grandsons to join the the terrorist group.
It said the man decided to do so after seeing a video showing his jihadi son being killed in action in Syria.
Amin claimed his people in Xinjiang had been facing prosecution for the past 60 years by the Chinese.
He claimed he was a imam back in China.
In an IS video, Amin is shown holding an AK-47 assault rifle and admiring other weapons belonging to the terrorist group.
The Daily Mail Online reported the director of the Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies at the University of Buckingham, Anthony Glees saying that the propaganda footage seemed to be aimed at the Uighurs.
The propaganda video also shows a boy of 10 issuing a warning to the Chinese: “O Chinese kaffar (non-believers), know that we are preparing in the land of the khilafah (caliphate) and we will come to you and raise this flag in Turkestan with the permission of Allah.”
Turkestan is the old name for Xinjiang region.
