KOTA BARU, Oct 1, 2015:

An image of a girl aged between seven and 10, pictured begging in Thailand and widely spread through the What’s App mobile application recently, has  been making the rounds since last year.

Kelantan Criminal Investigation Department spokesman said the story behind picture was not untrue and was posted by irresponsible parties.

He said the picture began to be spread from May 21 last year.

“What is narrated is absolutely untrue and the information there is false,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Tumpat district police chief Superintendent Zaharudian Rasip, when contacted, denied that local officers had gone to Thailand to investigate the matter.

The story accompanying the picture of the child states that Thai police had come across the girl, said to be a Malaysian, who was fluent in Bahasa Malaysia and French.

The message also said a Malaysian police officer had been sent to Thailand to investigate the case and appealed to anyone who knew the child to contact police.
