BATU KAWAN, 12 April 2017:

Four Indonesian men – believed to be members of a syndicate that specialises in pilfering bags of express bus passengers have been caught.

Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) police chief Supt Shafee Abdul Samad said their activities came to light when a passenger found her bag kept under her feet was opened and her laptop missing.

The 32-year-old woman complained to the driver who stopped the bus – which was on the way from Johor Bahru to George Town on Monday – by the side of the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge to conduct checks, which led to the four being exposed.

The driver then drove the bus to the Sungai Nibong police station where the suspects, aged 20 to 40, were handed over.

“Among the stolen items found in the possession of the four were laptops, expensive watches and bracelets, rings, gold chains and lockets and cash totalling RM970.”
