KUALA LUMPUR, 6 April 2017:

A 22-year-old local youth sustained serious injuries when a gas cylinder exploded at the parking lot of a six-storey building in Jalan Raja Chulan here, early today.

“The man was seriously injured on the pelvis and has been sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital,” said City Fire and Rescue operation centre chief Samsol Maarif Saibani.

He said a fire and rescue team arrived at the scene within 10 minutes following a distress call from a member of the public at 4.39am.

“Initial investigations found that the gas cylinder was one used to extinguish fire,” he said, adding, the cause was still being investigated.

In MIRI, an accident at KM17 Jalan Samalaju-Bintulu involving a car and a trailer truck early this morning left one person dead and two others injured.

Bintulu Fire and rescue Station officer Mohd Ishak Amran said the deceased had been identified as Cyprian Rima Mengga, 23, from Rumah Bundong Sungai Kapit, who was sitting in the backseat.

“The two injured victims were the car driver and front seat passenger. They have been sent to Hospital Nyabau.”

He said the lorry driver who escaped unhurt, was heading to Miri while the car was travelling from Samalaju to Bintulu.

“We received a call at 1.40am and arrived at 1.58am to remove the body from the vehicle.”
