KUALA LUMPUR, 10 Jan 2017:

The government welcomes and encourages more young people to work as express bus driver, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said.

She said this was because the majority of express bus drivers in the country were in the average age of 40 and above.

The minister said the call followed the allegation that bus companies were keen on hiring older drivers who possibly had difficulties driving long distance.

“What discourages young people to become bus drivers is that the cost to get the license is roughly RM2,000…maybe we can reduce the fee or incorporate the fee into their training as bus drivers.”

Nancy said the matter would be the matters to be discussed further at the Land Public Transport Commission’s (SPAD) ‘bus laboratory’ next month.
