SHAH ALAM, 10 Jan 2017:
The Selangor Road Transport Department (RTD) issued summonses to 25 foreigners for driving without a licence in an operation codenamed ‘Op Warga Asing’ carried out from Jan 1 until yesterday.
Selangor RTD director Nazli Md Taib said in the operation – which was conducted simultaneously at seven hotspot areas around the state – saw nine private and commercial vehicles driven by foreigners also impounded.
“The foreigners comprised seven from Pakistan, seven (Indonesia), five (Myanmar), two (India) and one each from Bangladesh, Syria, Yemen, and Cambodia.
“Summonses will also be issued against owners of the vehicles driven by the foreigners,” he said at a press conference after the operation at the Batu Tiga toll plaza, here last night.
The operation involved 115 RTD personnel as well 21 personnel from the Selangor Immigration Department.
A total of 539 vehicles were inspected and 173 summonses were issued for various traffic offences such as driving without a licence, expired licence and having no road tax during the operation which began at 8am until midnight.
In the same operation, six foreigners – including a woman – were detained by the state Immigration Department for failing to produce a valid travel document and later taken to the Shah Alam Immigration Detention Depot.
