BUKIT MERTAJAM, 8 Jan 2017:

Police have detained a man in Permatang Tinggi last night, in connection with the theft of a Toyota Camry which was used to rustle cattle.

The suspect, in his 20s, was picked up about 9pm in Jalan Usaha Jaya.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said a police team on patrol seized the suspect’s cigarette packet, which contained syabu.

Upon questioning, the man admitted to stealing the Toyota Camry in Taman Seri Delima, Juru recently.

“The man told police the car was then hidden at an oil palm plantation in Jalan Batu Puteh, Sungai Kob in Kulim, with the registration number changed to avoid detection by the authorities.

“The suspect said the vehicle was used to steal cattle in the area.”

Nik Ros Azhan said the man confessed to being involved in several cattle thefts in Kulim, along with an accomplice. “We are in the midst of tracking down the accomplice.”

He added that the suspect tested positive for drugs and had seven previous records related to drugs.
