GEORGE TOWN, 8 Jan 2017:
The Pilgrims Management Fund Board (TH) will seek an additional quota of 8,000 haj pilgrims this year from the Saudi Arabian government.
TH chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said the quota for haj pilgrims given by the Saudi Arabian government currently was 22,320 pilgrims annually.
“We hope the number can be increased up to 30,000 based on the estimated total population of 30 million currently.”
He said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom and several TH representatives, including himself, would leave for Saudi Arabia on Jan 25 to discuss the matter.
“We will meet with King Salman (the Saudi Arabian King) and Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Nayef as well as the Saudi Haj Minister to discuss the issue.”
if the request for the additional quota is successful, Abdul Azeez said he would consider holding a meeting with TH board members to raise the haj quota for the younger generation.
