KUALA LUMPUR, 6 Jan 2017:
A lorry driver and his wife met a fiery end when the heavy vehicle they were travelling in, which was laden with concrete piles, caught fire after it skidded and crashed into the guardrail at KM8.8 of the Kajang-Seremban Expressway (Lekas) yesterday.
Kajang deputy police chief Supt Abdul Ghani Mohamad Ji said the man – identified as Molok Zainal Abidin, 51 – and his wife Rosana Bahtiar, 21, died at the scene in the afternoon mishap.
“The impact of the crash caused the concrete piles to slide to the front of the lorry, pinning the man and his wife to their seats before they were burnt to death when the lorry caught fire.”
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (Operations) Mohd Sani Harul said eight firefighters from the Semenyih fire station were rushed to the scene to help extricate the bodies before they were taken to Serdang Hospital for post mortem.
The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
