PETALING JAYA, 6 Jan 2017:

An auxiliary policeman at a public university here was today fined RM1,500, in default two months jail, by the magistrate’s court for punching his fiancee, leaving her with a black eye.

Magistrate Salamiah Salleh handed down the sentence on Azhar Mat Yusof, 33, after he pleaded guilty to intentionally causing hurt to Audrey Anne Chua Wei Lian, 20, at Block 1-2-3, Lagoon Perdana Apartment, Jalan PJS 9/1 in Bandar Sunway here, at around 4am on Dec 31.

He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.

Earlier, prosecuting officer ASP V. Nara appealed to the court for a deterrent sentence to serve as a lesson to the accused.

“The accused should be punished accordingly as he is an auxiliary policeman and he should be able to control his emotions.”

Azhar, who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency on the grounds that he had two children to support, adding that he was remorseful and would not repeat the offence.
