KUALA LUMPUR, 31 Dec 2016:
A welding shop employee was stopped by the police during ‘Ops Roda Khas’ in the capital city last night for driving a car with a licence plate that did not meet stipulated specifications.
The 23-year-old driver and the Honda Jazz car were then taken to the traffic police station at Jalan Tun H S Lee for further action, said Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police chief ACP Mohd Nadzri Hussain.
He said the registration numbers of the car were placed in a manner that they appeared as ‘WA BOSS T’ from far.
“The original plate number of the car was WA 8055 T, but it was modified.
“We view this as a grave offence because we do not want it to become a trend that could contribute to an increase in criminal activities with the use of misleading vehicle registration number plates.”
Mohd Nadzri said 399 summonses were issued to motorists for various offences in the three-hour operation which started at 10pm.
The operation, which targeted motorcyclists, was conducted simultaneously at three locations, namely Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Bangsar.
“This operation is aimed at reducing unhealthy activities among motorcyclists.”
