MALACCA, 23 March 2016:
The Melaka International Airport will handle 26 direct flights from Guangdong, China, for a trial period of six months beginning July.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the service, based on charter concept, would be provided by Southern China Airline which would use an Airbus A319 to ply the route.
“Each flight will accommodate 120 passengers and if the response is good we will increase flight frequency up to thrice weekly,” he said after chairing the state executive council meeting here today.
Idris, who just returned after leading an investment and tourism promotion mission to Guangdong, said the deal was reached during his visit to the province.
“Guangdong authorities are keen to include Malaccca as one of their destinations.”
On another development, Idris said energy supplier Edra Global Energy Bhd has agreed to invest RM4 billion in the state.
“They plan to build a combined cycle gas turbine generator at the Telok Gong power station.”
