SHAH ALAM, Jan 29, 2016:

A secondary school teacher in Seksyen 11 was killed after he was struck by lightning yesterday evening.

In the 4.20pm incident, the victim identified as Mohd Farhan Masudi, 32, was taking cover from the heavy rain at the school hall with five other teachers after an activity at the field.

Shah Alam Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shafien Mamat said the victim was soaking wet and was holding the copper shutters before the lightning struck.

“The victim fell unconscious after he was struck by lightning and was later pronounced dead.

“Two of his friends, both in their 30s, who tried to help him were also electrocuted and fell unconscious,” he said, when contacted today.

All three victims were rushed to the Shah Alam Hospital for treatment and Mohd Farhan was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The other two victims are reported to be in a stable condition.

Shafien said the victim, who was attached to a school in Tanjung Karang, was at the school to attend a football coaching course in which about 40 teachers from schools across Selangor participated.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
