Friends pay tribute to Malaysian student killed in skiing accident

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25, 2016:

The tragic death of a Malaysian student in France following a skiing accident has left many in tears. Her friends and acquaintances continue to pay tribute to her through social media.

Affiah Ariffin Hew, a student at the University of Nantes, was said to have been skiing at a ski station in Nice when she met with an accident.

She was sent to the Chu Pasteur Hospital where she was said to be in a critical condition and in a coma. She passed away early Sunday morning, Malaysian time.

“My dearest Affiah. I’ve never told you how much I love your smile and your laugh. My best friend, my partner in crime, my gossip girl.

“I still cannot comprehend why you were taken away from us so soon, but the only thing I can come up with is that you lived your life so much to its fullest that at just 22, you have already achieved all God has planned for you. Now He wants you to come home.

“I’m glad I had 10 years of absolutely beautiful friendship with you. You will forever and always be a part of my heart and my life. Goodbye my dear friend. Till we meet again,” read part of a tribute posted on Facebook by Gloria Lee.

In the post, Lee shared her great memories with Affiah and posted a picture of them together, along with other friends. in which Affiah could be seen laughing.

A Facebook user, Ct Eyda Faryeyda, who claimed to be a friend of the victim’s mother, extended her condolences to Latifah Madon for her loss.

“May my friend Latifah Madon, be patient, strong and contented with this huge lost, your dear daughter Affiah Ariffin Hew,” she wrote in her Facebook post.

Another Facebook user, Nabil Akram, who claimed to have known Affiah since high school, also extended his condolences to Affiah’s family via the social networking site.

“I’ve known Affiah Hew since High School… Truly a sad day… When I was hanging out with her, her smile always brightened up my day… My utmost condolences to her family and friends. Al-Fatihah. Reposez en paix (Rest in peace),” he wrote.

Netizens, especially those who said they knew her, also expressed their sorrow through various social media platforms.

“Rest in peace my dear beloved cousin @AffiahHew,” wrote one netizen, @FareezHelmi, in his Twitter post.

“Just heard the news. A friend of mine from smk seri hartamas named Affiah Hew has passed away,” wrote a Twitter user, @_missfortune.

“We love you, @AffiahHew. The sky’s a little darker without you but we’ll have to learn to get by,” wrote another Twitter user, @Wamirul.

The news of Affiah’s passing came on the heels of another report in which three Malaysian students died in an accident in Jordan over the weekend.
