KUALA LUMPUR, July 14, 2015:

PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang predicts that the new political movement, Gerakan Harapan Baru (GHB), started among its disgruntled members will be short-lived.

“In our experience, all these splinter groups do not last more than two years,” Abdul Hadi said in an interview with Singapore’s Channel News Asia today.

Abdul Hadi, who was also Marang Member of Parliament, was responding to the movement’s formation which was announced by former PAS deputy-president Mohamad Sabu yesterday.

The movement, mostly made up of the Islamist party’s “progressive” Erdogen faction, was launched to reunify the Pakatan Rakyat pact which was shattered by DAP’s discord with PAS’ plans to implement the hudud Islamic law in Kelantan.

At its launching, Mohamad, or more popularly known as Mat Sabu who was also the movement’s president, said the entity would be a conduit to reunite all political parties and non-governmental organisations (NGO) under the Pakatan Rakyat banner.

Mat Sabu was joined by other figures such as former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib, former PAS secretary-general Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar, former PAS vice-president Salahuddin Ayub and other senior politicians among them Khalid Samad, Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli and Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
