KUALA LUMPUR, June 26, 2015:

The driver of a Volkswagen Polo which rammed into the rear of a police patrol car has claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here this morning.

College student Lua Norman, 21, pleaded not guilty under the influence of alcohol, for ramming his vehicle against the patrol car that caused the vehicle to slam into a concrete road divider.

The incident allegedly occurred 8.55am on Monday in Jalan Pudu.

He was charged under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and face up to 10 years imprisonment and RM20,000 fine, upon conviction.

Magistrate Zura Syazween Hamizan granted RM4,000 bail with one surety, and temporarily suspended Lua’s driving licence. The court has set July 27 for re-mention of the case.

A video of the incident was uploaded on Wednesday and has since gone viral.

After ramming the patrol car, the driver did not stop his vehicle and instead, fled the scene.
