SUBANG JAYA, May 15, 2015:

Some 50 people, made up of Perkasa members as well as several other non-governmental organisation (NGO) members today gathered at the Subang Skypark Terminal to welcome former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah who returned from Mecca.

Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah have been in Mecca for the last three days to perform their Umrah.

Among those present to welcome the couple back were Former Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, former Umno Batu Kawan vice-chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan, MJMM president Abdul Rani Kulup, Selangor Perkasa chief Abu Bakar Yahya and Ikhlas president Mohd Ridhuan.

They waited at the Terminal’s Gate 6 since after Friday prayers, chatting with one another while waiting for the former Premier to arrive in showing their support for him.

Dr Mahathir who arrived at 3.45pm told reporters that he was glad he managed to perform his Umrah.

“Alhamdulillah, I managed to perform my Umrah without any obstacles,” said Dr Mahathir.

When asked his comments on the current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Mahathir simply said “I will answer that later”.

The vocal leader is expected to attend a talk, Bicara Negara with Tun Dr Mahathir at the Ipoh Tower Regency Hotel at 3pm tomorrow.

“I am here for Tun. I think he is doing a good job. Fantastic job. And he should continue because there are millions of Malaysians behind him,” said Zaid.

Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali who was also present here said that there is no other reason why he and his NGO members came to welcome Dr Mahathir, except to make him feel at home.

“We just want to show our support to him and welcome him back after performing Umrah.”

Dr Mahathir had previously criticised Najib through his writing on his blog, and said that the reason behind the criticism was due to the current Prime Minister’s failure to answer the people’s questions on several issues.

Prior to his arrival, messages were circulating, urging for members of the public to be present at the airport today to welcome the former Premier home as well as to show support for him.
