KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17, 2014:
A Malaysian, Susheela Devi Raja, is in critical condition while four others were injured in a hot air balloon crash in Turkey.
An official from the Malaysian embassy in Ankara said the other Malaysians involved in the incident were Thuraippah Varatharajan, Thavil Selvi Tamotharan, Datin Juniwati Ahmad and a 15-year-old named Nur Syahira.
Juniwati has since been discharged.
All five of the Malaysians were tourists.
The official also said the embassy had sent a consular team to the scene of the hot air balloon crash.
AFP, quoting the Dogan news agency, reported that a Chinese tourist was killed in the incident which saw the balloon crashing during a sightseeing ride over the rock formations of Cappadocia in the Guvercinlik Valley of Nevsehir province.
Meanwhile, according to BNO News, the crash had involved two hot air balloons with 11 people injured in total.
It quoted Nevsehir governor Mehmet Ceylan as saying that the crash occurred when the balloons experienced crosswinds upon their descent, resulting in hard landings.
The tourist from China, identified as Tang Yi, died on the spot, with Dogan news agency saying that the rest were hospitalised for fractures and broken bones.
